Trust: The Foundation of Every Successful CEO

Every great company starts with trust. Without it, no strategy, innovation, or vision can last. In this episode, Jens Heitland explores why trust is the most crucial leadership currency and how every CEO can intentionally build it.

1. Trust starts within your organization.
Your team must trust you before they can follow you. Trust is built through consistency, transparency, and authenticity. If your employees question your motives or messages, you have already lost influence.

2. External trust drives business growth.
Customers and investors align with leaders they trust. The CEO’s visibility directly impacts how people perceive the brand. When a leader is open, approachable, and transparent in their values, trust becomes a competitive advantage.

3. Thought leadership builds trust strategically.
When you connect your personal voice to your business strategy, you lead with intention. You become the face of your organization’s values. This is how thought leadership transforms from a communication tactic into a trust engine.

4. Trust requires visibility.
It’s not enough to be authentic privately. You must show it publicly. Stepping forward as the CEO and sharing your insights, ideas, and values allows people to connect with you as a human first, leader second.

As a CEO of a company, the number one thing that we need to focus on is trust. Trust builds everything. Trust first and foremost inside of our own organization. If your team members don't trust you as the CEO, you have a huge problem, obviously. Same with your board and everyone that is connected to you, your shareholders, and so on.

And then we take this to the external world. Your customers, do they trust you? If they don't, you have a major problem. When it comes to sales and the revenue that you're driving, people are trusting businesses where the CEO is approachable and where they can understand. Where the CEO is coming from, and that's something you can build strategically into your business.

I call this thought leadership strategy. You link your personality to the business strategy, and then you look for ways that enable you to be seen as the trustful leader of that organization. It's not difficult at all, and everyone can do that. It just takes you. One step into the direction of being more visible.

It just requires you to step up, ask the CEO, and put yourself out there.
