The Room Artificial Intelligence Cannot Enter
The podcast landscape in 2026 looks very different from the one I entered. Audio alone once carried a show. Today the format has moved decisively toward video, and audiences expect to see the people they are listening to. At the same time, artificial intelligence can generate entire episodes without a single human voice in the room. Scripts, hosts, and even the back-and-forth of conversation can now be synthesized at scale. Both developments are happening in parallel, and together they are quietly reshaping what an audience values.
In my experience, the most important shift sits underneath the technology. When two people meet in person, relationships form differently than they do online. There is energy in a room that a video call tends to compress. Small signals travel more easily. A pause reads as attention, and silence has room to settle. Trust builds through proximity, and a screen can only approximate it.
A podcast recorded in person captures that dynamic and makes it visible. Viewers are watching more than an exchange of ideas. They see two people connecting in real time, in both video and audio, and they register the quality of that connection long before they process the content itself. Over time, a show built on this kind of presence develops its own rhythm. The host and the guest go deeper because the setting allows it. The audience connects more deeply because they are witnessing something real.
Structure plays a role as well. A single conversation in a room is valuable. A recurring format, where that conversation happens consistently and with intention, becomes something closer to a system. It creates predictability for the audience and a reliable space for guests to think out loud. Leaders who appear in that setting are seen in ways written content and polished clips rarely allow.
Artificial intelligence sharpens all of this. AI can do a great deal, and I have no interest in dismissing what it offers. It can summarize, draft, edit, and increasingly produce convincing content. It can generate a podcast. What tends to happen, though, is that audiences recognize synthetic material for what it is. Once people know a machine produced a conversation, the connection they came for is gone. The content may be technically competent, yet it carries no relationship, and without relationship there is little reason to keep listening.
As synthetic content becomes more common, in-person conversation becomes rarer by comparison. Scarcity has always changed how people assign value. The more feeds fill with volume-generated material, the more weight a genuine human exchange carries. For executives thinking about visibility, the implication is significant. Credibility built in rooms has always mattered offline. Video podcasts recorded in person make that same credibility visible and verifiable online.
I do not expect this to change. The tools will keep improving, and the volume of artificial content will keep growing. What remains constant is the human need to see another person, to sense their presence, and to trust what passes between two people in the same room. That need sits beneath every format shift, and technology keeps building around it without ever replacing it.

the key part when it comes to a podcast in 2026, it has to be video. In person, if you ask me, reason for that is the relationship engine that comes with it. If you meet in person, it's different than if you meet online. Second point is artificial intelligence. I think because of all that is happening with artificial intelligence, this human to human in one room where you have energy in the room, where you have a person that you can connect to, and the viewers of that video see these two people connecting to each other in video and audio is super leverage.
AI can do a lot of things, can do artificial podcasts. I get all of that. What AI will never be able to replace is the in-person conversation that you have with another human being. And if you put that on camera and put that into a podcast setting where you do that structurally, it helps people to go deeper and it helps people to connect deeper, and I don't think that's going to go away.
I don't believe that people in the future will create artificial podcasts, and everyone that knows that this is an artificial podcast will love to listen to it because it's literally just AI slop.
