How to Define the Right Audience for Your Personal Brand Strategy

A personal brand without a clear target is like a billboard in the desert; it exists, but no one sees it. In today’s episode of The Daily Hint, we focus on one of the most overlooked questions in CEO branding: Who is your audience?

1. Start with Your Objective.

Before you can define your audience, you need to determine your goal.

• Are you trying to build or grow a business?

• Are you looking for your next career step?

• Are you aiming to increase visibility inside your organization?

Each goal leads to a different target audience and requires a different branding approach.

2. Building a Business? Think Like a Marketer.

If your personal brand is supporting your company’s growth, your audience should be aligned with your ideal customer. In that case, every piece of content should reinforce your credibility and make it easier for those customers to trust and engage with you.

3. Growing Inside a Company? Think Two Levels Up.

One of the most powerful career strategies: Build a personal brand that speaks to people two levels above your current role. That audience of senior executives, department heads, and VPs are the ones who can open doors, recommend promotions, and see you as a strategic asset.

4. Finding a New Job? Attract the Right Decision-Makers.

If your goal is to transition into a new position, your brand must resonate with the individuals who make hiring decisions. Position yourself as someone who already operates at that level, and your content will naturally attract attention from the right recruiters and leaders.

5. Tailored Visibility Creates Strategic Opportunity.

You don’t need to be visible to everyone. You need to be visible to the people who matter most to your goals. Defining that group is the first step in building a personal brand that delivers results.

Final Insight:

Your audience isn’t “everyone in your network.” It’s the people who influence your future.

This episode provides you with the thinking and tools to define who you are and how to position your brand for impact.

Listen now to aim higher, with precision.

How do I identify the target audience for my personal brand? This really depends of what is your general goal, like, do you have a business and you want to drive that business to a direction, or do you want to find a job and want to position yourself to get the next job? Or you do that inside of an organization where you want to get another job.

So it really de starts with that. If you, for example, want to build a business and you use that to attract potential customers, then that's your target audience. Very simple. If you want to build a brand that helps you to step up inside of an organization, I always focus on two levels above. Build a personal brand that is. Attractive for two levels above your manager today. And if you build a brand that is attractive to them, they will see you because you are one of them and that will help you to grow.
